Activity Highlights ELC
We are excited to share with you some fun August updates for all three schools and the activity highlights ELC. At the beginning of the month, ELC Santa Barbara students, staff, and host families will celebrate ELC Fiesta 2016, by eating fresh tacos, drinking frozen margaritas, and listening to live music, which will include a performance by ELC President Ellyn Levine playing the guitar. Take a look at last year’s photos. Then, later in the month, ELC Los Angeles will welcome back Director Vanessa Cross-Napolitano from maternity leave, while thanking Alyssa Balken for her wonderful tenure as interim Director. Finally, ELC Boston’s 50+ students are looking forward to exploring the fall foliage, at the end of September.

August activities at ELC Los Angeles are activities to remember! On August 3rd students and staff will explore the world-famous Olvera Street, one of the oldest streets in Los Angeles. On the 4th and 18th, students and staff will head to the Santa Monica pier for Twilight Concerts. On the 5th, students and staff will eat treats from some of the best food trucks in the world, while shopping at trendy Venice Beach stores during Abbot Kinney First Fridays. On the 23rd, students and staff will see the LA Dodgers play baseball!
At ELC Boston, we are going to take advantage of the last full month of Summer! Every Tuesday of August #ELCFC, comprised of students and staff, will be playing soccer on Boston Common. On August 4th, ELC will be hosting an ELC Potluck. Students will share dishes representing their home country and have the opportunity to try different cuisine from all over the world. On the 15th, staff will serve students delicious ice cream sundaes at our annual Ice Cream Social!

ELC Santa Barbara continues to celebrate the perfect summer weather! We are excited to host our annual Fiesta Party on August 4th. Staff, students, and host families will join ELC Founder and President Ellyn Levine, for a night filled with mariachi music and delicious food! Do your students love to dance or are they interested in learning how to Salsa dance? This month, students will take Salsa dancing lessons at Anya Gallery! On August 17th students and staff will sing along to their favorite songs at ELC’s Karaoke night.
Abdullah Fryan is from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and has been studying at ELC Los Angeles for eight weeks in our Intensive Course. He chose to study English in Los Angeles to prepare for his upcoming fall semester at UCLA. Apart from his studies, Abdullah loves playing sports and writing about sports. In fact, Abdullah is a published author of four books about sports, written in Arabic! After he finishes his studies at UCLA, Abdullah will travel around the world before returning to Riyadh.
Loriane Ribadeau Dumas is from France, and studied at ELC Boston for three weeks in our English Plus Music Program. Loriane recently graduated from high school in France and is an aspiring professional classical musician. She has been playing the oboe for the last 10 years. As part of her English Plus Music Program, Loriane took oboe lessons two afternoons per week, and attended concerts at Symphony Hall, Berklee College of Music, and the Institute of Contemporary Art!
Yumaryn Lopez is from Caracas, Venezuela and studied at ELC Santa Barbara for 14 weeks in our Intensive Course. Yumaryn recently graduated with an ABA in Business Administration. She chose Santa Barbara because she had heard about the amazing weather and the friendly people. In her free time she likes going to the beach, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends. So, of course, she fits right into the easy and friendly Santa Barbara lifestyle and liked all the activity highlights ELC!
